NeCEN has acquired a state of the art K3 bioquantum direct electron detector thanks to NEMI funding.
The installation is now finished and some test data has been collected.
The speed of data collection is 2 to 3 times faster than with the previous generation detector (so called K2 bioquantum).
The typical standard sample apoFerritin has been used and from an overnight data collection 2,500 movies were collected allowing a final reconstruction to a resolution of 1.77 angstroms allowing fitting of the amino acids sequence into the EM density map. To be noted that hourly maps reached 1.9-2.0 angstroms.
